On April 14th and 29th, both beautiful days, the BRC Gardening Club 😍 worked on spring planting! ☀️
New raised beds were provided for easier gardening. On the 14th, the crew picked up sticks and pine cones to place in the bottom of the boxes. These items will compost and acts as a filler so less dirt is needed for planting.
One the 29th, the crew put down newspaper 🗞 and pieces of cardboard, also compostable, in the boxes. Then, gardening soil was laid on top.
Strawberry 🍓 plants and cabbage were added to the boxes. Then, the crew transplanted lettuce from last years planting and arranged those into the boxes. New baby marigolds were also found in the old planters. Gently, those were removed and placed in the new boxes to help ward off insects 🐜🐛🦗.
The crew worked really hard, had fun, and did an amazing job! We are proud of you!
Now remember to water 💦 the plants every day! 😆

This camp will be offered the weeks of:

Calling all budding food artists! Back again this year is one of our most popular camps ever – Flour Power! Campers will learn basic baking techniques and explore different decorating applications with instruction from local cookie artist extraordinaire, Nicole Thomas of Cole Cole’s Cupcakes & Confections.
(NOTE: This camp is for beginners)
You MUST complete the Registration and Health/Permission forms and submit them with payment in order for your child to be registered – we cannot “hold” spots without payment. Forms may be submitted online with your secure payment, at www.wilsonarts.com/camps. You may also register your child/children in person at the Wilson Arts Center during business hours (Tuesday-Saturday 10 am – 5 pm).

State Funded Services – 1915i

Members ages 3 and older with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Severe Mental Illness (SMI, including Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI)), Severe Emotional Disorder, or Severe Substance Use Disorder (SUD) are the target group for 1915i services.

  • Individuals who are enrolled in the Innovations or TBI waiver are not eligible for 1915(i) services, as they have access to similar services through those waivers.
  • Individuals on the waitlist for the Innovations or TBI waiver are eligible to obtain 1915(i) services if they are part of a target group and meet the functional limitation and eligibility requirements.

  • Individuals who are enrolled in (Community Alternatives Program for Children) CAP/C or Community Alternatives Program for Disabled Adults (CAP/DA) can receive some 1915(i) services. They cannot receive Respite or Community Transition but are eligible to receive all other services.

Needs-based Home & Community Based Services (HCBS) 1915(i) Eligibility Criteria include the need for support in acquiring, maintaining, and retaining skills needed to live and work in the community, as evidenced by at least one functional deficit in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs), social and/or work skills. For an individual to be determined to need the 1915(i) benefit, they must require:

  • The provision of at least one 1915(i) service, as documented in their Care Plan/Individual Service Plan (ISP), and

  • The provision of 1915(i) services at least monthly.

Members may obtain 1915(i) services in the following settings: private homes, the community, group homes, integrated employment sites, or micro-enterprise. All settings where the members obtain and receive 1915(i) services must be in integrated settings. This rule applies to all individuals in residential supports and Supported Employment (SE)/Individual Placement Support (IPS) except where such activities or abilities are contraindicated specifically in an individual’s Care Plan/ISP and applicable due process has been executed to restrict any of the standards or rights.

I am a strong advocate for my son, Titus Jackson, who has autism. As active supporters, along with other families with loved ones with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities, we strive to create the best lives for them. We understand the challenges and the rewards of the journey, as we live it every day.

My advocacy began with securing the best educational support for Titus, focusing on his Individualized Education Plan (IEP). He made history as the first I/DD student athlete to participate on his high school’s wrestling team. After years of striving to be his best, Titus achieved a major goal, earning his high school diploma.

After Titus finished high school, I focused on helping Titus become independent and fully integrated into the community. At the age of 23, Titus began receiving services through Bailey’s Respite Care, Inc. (agency provider) and Trillium Health Resources (MCO) with the Innovations Waiver. He now works for a local grocery store, walks to the barbershop, makes financial transactions, participates in conferences side-by-side with me, works out at the local gym, and enjoys networking with others. All small but significant steps toward autonomy and community engagement.

Titus has been a member of Bailey’s Respite Care, Inc. from the beginning. We are thoroughly appreciative of everything they do to support my son and others with I/DD.
